Good Gifts

James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

As a little girl in summer VBS, I couldn’t have been older than five or six, I remember singing a children’s song in a quaint Presbyterian church, “Every good and perfect gift comes from above.”

If you truly think about this verse, “every good and perfect gift,” the little things we often take for granted suddenly become noticed: that cup of coffee paid for by the woman I let cut in line last week, that desk my mother in love gave to me that I had been wanting for over a year that just happened to be sitting in her garage, that wagon I wanted for my boys that my neighbor found and offered to me, that house that landed in our laps in a difficult market, that evening with girlfriends to recharge, that vacation time with family…the list goes on and on. I would even consider AC in Texas, indoor plumbing, health in my body, my church family, and time with my boys even greater gifts than those.

The next time something good happens to you, the next time you receive a gift no matter how small, remember where it came from. Remember the Father. He is good. He doesn’t change. He is constant. There is no darkness in Him. His love is greater than we will ever understand. He loves to give good gifts to His children (Matthew 7:11).

Have a wonderful day!

Love and hugs,

Cristy

P.S. I know it’s been awhile. Hang with me I’m working out the kinks. Also please pray for my one-year-old who has decided he doesn’t want to sleep through the night anymore. And pray for this tired momma, and his tired daddy 😜.
