Did you know that Goliath taunted the Israelites for 40 days? (1 Samuel 17:16). When he came out every morning and evening, the Israelites ran away terrified (1 Samuel 17:24).
I woke up this morning fighting my own fear. My one-year-old, Ben, has allergies that I’m believing God for total healing from. In his almost two years of life, he’s been sick with fever and/or breathing problems at least six times. That means he has been sick with something around every couple months since he was born. I’m sure you can imagine my concern for him with the current state of the U.S., the world.
Let’s take some notes from David in 1 Samuel 17:34-37: And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, “I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. “Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.” Moreover David said, “The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you!”
So what do we do? We remind ourselves what He has done, not only the things written in the Word, but personal testimonies of His faithfulness. David wasn’t afraid because of his relationship with the Lord. He recounted the times God personally saved him from the lion and the bear, knowing full well God would deliver him from Goliath because of the Lord’s character.
The last time Ben was diagnosed with bronchiolitis (wheezing, labored breathing), he was on breathing treatments for a couple days and seemed fine. When I checked in with his pediatrician a month later for his well child checkup, the Dr.’s jaw dropped when I recounted the previous month’s events. “That’s a miracle” came out of his mouth. He was shocked Ben’s body recovered that quickly.
The enemy wants us to forget what God has done, because he knows “We overcame him by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony” (Revelation 12:11). Take some time today and write down what the Lord has personally done for you.
Remember one more thing: what we say matters (Proverbs 18:21). Faith filled David’s mouth. We need to fill our mouth with faith, too, now more than ever. When you feel the fear welling up, speak faith and life. I promise I will too!
Love and hugs,
Cristy
