Psalm 27:13-14 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
I don’t like to wait. Nobody does, really. We’re America, the fast-food nation. If we have to wait a few minutes to order at the drive-through, we’re irritated.
Really, we should always be waiting for something from God. That means our faith is being tested and correspondingly increased.
Where are you today? Are you in the middle of waiting? Let’s take some notes from David. He’s at the point of fainting, giving up. He said he would have unless he believed to see the goodness of the Lord (emphasis added). Unless we believe God, we will give up. Do you believe Him? It’s ok to be honest with God. I want to believe you Lord, but I don’t. Help my unbelief (Mark 9:24).
I wish the very next thing David said was, “then comes the answer!” But, he didn’t. He said wait. Twice. Our favorite thing to do.
I’ll leave you with two examples to encourage you. Y’all remember Abraham? God promised him a son. When it didn’t happen as fast as Abraham and Sarah wanted, they took matters into their own hands. Abraham had a child, Ishmael, with his servant. The Middle East and the whole world are still paying for that mistake. God was faithful and blessed Abraham with Isaac. Sarah had a baby at 90! Can you imagine? Yikes. Don’t you think their faith in the Lord was increased after Sarah became pregnant at her age, and even more miraculously birthed a son and lived? Now THAT was literally a geriatric pregnancy. God likes to show off. I love it and hate it because I don’t like to wait.
Next example: Ryan and I were faced with a decision. Put money down on a lot to build a beautiful, brand new home, or keep waiting. We had tirelessly searched for listings in our price range only to be out-bid time after time for three months. Homes were selling before they even hit the market, and they were selling far above the appraised value. New construction seemed to be the answer we were believing God for. We prayed together about the new house, and the Lord took me to Psalm 27. As soon as I read “wait on the Lord…wait, I say, on the Lord,” Ryan and I were immediately discouraged. Wait some more, Lord? Really? So we sat on it as long as we could, and sought counsel. Everything looked great. But when we sat down together the next afternoon, something was not right. Ryan asked me what I was thinking. I said I can’t pinpoint what is wrong with this new house. Everything looks good, but something is off. He looked at me, said “I feel the same,” and high-fived me. Within an hour, we received a call about a home in the neighborhood of our dreams, and we bought it with all closing costs covered and over $20,000 under the appraised value.
If you haven’t seen your answer yet, and you’re at the point of giving up, choose to believe God, wait just a little bit longer, and then wait some more. The Lord is worth waiting on. It’s in the waiting that we find out what we truly believe. It’s in the waiting that we find Him when we seek Him. Its in the waiting that we come to know His character. It’s in the waiting that our character becomes more like His. It’s in the waiting that we ultimately receive His very best for us if we don’t give up.
So wait on Him today and every day, and watch and see His goodness prevail. He is faithful.
Hugs, Cristy
