Psalm 24:3-6 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands, and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.
I love movies and TV shows. It wouldn’t be too far off to even call it an addiction. I’m the type of person who can’t start an old tv show on Netflix because I don’t have the willpower to stop watching. Mindless entertainment is such fun, and I love a good story. But I can’t help but realize that it’s truly empty and absolutely useless most of the time. When I watch too much, I even feel empty inside.
This emptiness I feel comes from the portion of Psalm 24 that says, “has not lifted up his soul unto vanity.” One definition of the words “lifted up” in Hebrew is to carry. The word “soul” is your mind, will and emotions. A couple definitions of the word “vanity” are emptiness and uselessness. Interestingly, the Lord is showing us that we have the power to carry our mind and emotions into emptiness. —I’m not saying TV is bad, and we should never watch it. We simply need balance. I also know I’m not the only one who struggles with something that’s empty and void of the Lord. Whatever it is that’s gripping your attention instead of Him, know that He doesn’t hold our weaknesses over us with disappointment. He is gracious and faithful to be there when we give Him our time.
Know, today, that you have the power to carry your own soul. Be careful where you carry it, because it matters. I trust the Lord to help me break free from uselessness, and I know He will do the same for you.
Be encouraged to carry your soul into Him. He is patiently waiting.
Love and hugs,
Cristy
P.S. Get yourself a prayer closet. Best thing I ever did, and a fantastic hiding spot from littles 🤣. Just kidding! They’re asleep 😋.
So true!! Thanks for the reminder
